PLAIN Monthly Meeting
July 10, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 7:41 p.m. by Gwyneth Butera.
Attendees: Gwyneth Butera, president; Nicky Rosenbluth, immediate past president; Lalah Manly, Vice President; Mary Stuckey, Treasurer; Linda Orgain, secretary; Faye Ridling, Neighborhood Watch; and James Schwarzlose.
The minutes for the June 5, 2008, meeting were submitted, reviewed, corrections made, and were accepted as amended.
Treasurer’s Report. Mary Stuckey submitted the treasurer’s report for June, and also provided a report on the deposits. Funds were deposited for PLAIN, the Tree Fund, and the Playground Committee.
Old Business:
Non-Profit (501c3) Status Update. Mary will try to get together with K.C. Wildmoon to make sure work this is completed.
Watershed Fund. Mary gave Gwyneth the check and she will confirm with Tommy Conlon before she takes the check to be deposited into the city’s account.
Membership Drive. PLAIN memberships were due to be renewed for all members on July 1. There now is an up-to-date Excel spread sheet that can be updated annually. A file was provided on renewals from the June and July breakfasts – to date 44 residents have renewed. We have about 8 new members from this year’s membership drive.
Officers Duties. To date, Gwyneth has received a description for the duties of PLAIN president and vice president. She still needs a description for the treasurer and secretary. Gwyneth will compile these in a document and send it out for comment.
Movie on the Beach. Nicky said that she can get a license to show a movie through the PTO at Atlanta New Century School; the one-time license fee is $75. She didn’t check on the cost of a year-long license, but will do this because this may be more cost effective if we plan to show more than one movie a year. Her school is going purchase a license, so she will need a separate $75 from PLAIN. Plans are to show a film during the Pine Lake October fest, scheduled for October 4–5.
“Greening” of Pancake Breakfast. Because of the increase in the price of food, it was proposed that PLAIN increase the price of breakfast for adults by $1. However, people will not have to pay the additional amount if they bring own plate/cup. Mary thinks this is a good idea because biodegradable paper products are more expensive. Mary made a motion that PLAIN accept this change; it was seconded and passed. Beginning with the August breakfast, the price will increase to $6 for adults (PLAIN members). The price for children will remain the same.
Paperless PLAIN Talk. An article was written for the July/August PLAIN Talk about how in the future people can opt to download it from the Web site and forgo delivery. The next issue of PLAIN Talk is due out the first week of August.
New Business
Playground Build Events. There are plans for some events connected with preparing for the new play space directly after the August breakfast. The short, cinderblock retaining wall adjacent to Lakeshore Drive will be cleaned and prepared for a mural. Nicky presented 3 proposed designs for the new play space and solicited the opinion of PLAIN members.
Upcoming City Events. The City is once again sponsoring the Labor Day activities. The next PLAIN activities will be the International Dinner on Saturday, September 20, and the children’s Halloween party, currently scheduled for Saturday, October 25.
National Night Out. Faye Ridling discussed the upcoming National Night Out, to be held Tuesday, August 5. This when the police and citizens come together to show their support for fighting crime. Pine Lake’s Neighborhood Watch Committee is planning an activity for that night, probably a potluck dinner and some activities for children. They also will be inviting Pine Lake’s police officers to this event, as well as the local business owners. Faye will also ask Chick-Fil-A to bring their cow. She is soliciting other ideas for the evening. She also said that she participated in Les Chateau’s event last year to get some ideas and see what was involved in providing this observance.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.
