PLAIN Little Free Pantry (LFP)
Neighbor2Neighbor

In order to help promote the safety and security of those in need, PLAIN has operated a food bank.  We are in the process of transitioning to a self-serve food pantry.  It will be located near the old city hall and will be stocked with non-perishable items.   We expect to be up and running in mid to late August. Watch this space for updates!

We welcome all who need
access to food!

The PLAIN Little Free Pantry is for those not easily able to meet everyday food and personal needs.  It will be stocked with such items as canned goods, proteins, grains, and other non-perishables.  It is freely available to all, with no administrative or other requirements of those making use of the LFP.

The LFP operates as a safety net and cannot meet large scale needs.  For this reason, the LFP has information about nearby full-scale pantries, food distribution programs, and other forms of assistance. This information is in English and Spanish.

How is it stocked?

PLAIN will continue to collect groceries from the community to stock the LFP, and to restock as needed.  Collections of food and cash for groceries will continue at the PLAIN monthly breakfasts/brunches.  In addition, individuals may stock by dropping off food at the LFP at their convenience.  Littlefreepantry.org recommends keeping in mind the types of food that would appeal to people in the area.  They also suggest personal care items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, tampons, and shampoo.

Volunteers, we need you!

Volunteers are a critical part of the PLAIN Little Free Pantry.  They are needed to help stock and maintain the LFP.  Volunteers will sign up for a week at a time and will stop by the LFP two or three times that week to:

  • Restock with groceries from the nearby old city hall
  • Clean up the area and pantry
  • Report any maintenance needs

Images of the start of installation on August 5, 2023. We still need to do a bit more to finish including touchup, stenciling and sealing. We will also remove the side supports that are there while the concrete sets. Thanks to friends of Pine Lake, Jim and Janice, for your time and talent. Stay tuned for updates and the LFP to go live!
