August 6, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:45p.m. by Lalah Manly.

Attendees:Lalah Manly, Vice President;Mary Stuckey, Treasurer; Linda Orgain, Secretary; Reed Edgar and James Schwarzclose.

Review of the June Meeting Minutes. The minutes for the June meeting were received and accepted as amended.

Treasurer’s Report. Mary Stuckey provided the Treasury Report for June. PLAIN currently has a positive balance of $2,795.85.She also said that the Tree Fund had been cashed out as a check to the City of Pine Lake. She also mentioned that she will continue to work on completing the paperwork for PLAIN’s509(a)2-990PF status in the next month.

Annual Membership Drive. Mary S. reported that she had received many membership renewals at the June breakfast and will tabulate these and report on this at the next meeting. The aim for 2009 is to have 100 member households. Lalah Manly will be maintaining the membership list for this year.

Monthly Pancake Breakfast. The August breakfast was well attended; this month it preceded the Town Hall meeting. The current breakfast crew has informed PLAIN that they are unable to continue cooking on a regular basis, so we discussed the schedule for the breakfasts for the balance of this year. Linda O. and Greg Creech were trained on breakfast procedures this month. In November, City Council members will be the cooking crew. We will check to see whether the current cooks are available in October for Lakefest and December for Breakfast with Santa, and will continue to encourage others to volunteer to assist and/or provide leadership for the breakfasts. Lalah will ask PLEAS leadership if they would be willing to cook the January pancake breakfast.

In September, PLAIN will provide a continental breakfast from 8:30–10:00 a.m. Cost will be $3.00. Linda O. and Mary S. volunteered to coordinate next month’s breakfast. James will make the signs. Anyone interested in assisting on the breakfast crew should contact Sheryl Feenan at(404) 508-5623 or through her e-mail at sherylfeenan@comcast.net.

New Business:
International Dinner. The International Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, September 19 at 5p.m. Marie and Ivan Andrade normally coordinate this; James will contact and confirm with them that they would like to do this again this year. People bring an international dish to share or pay $5. PLAIN provides the beverages and paper products. James said that he will assist in decorating the Beach House.

Labor Day Activities. This year, on Monday, September 7, at 5:00 p.m., there will be a cookout-potluck sponsored by City Council. They will provide burgers and hotdogs for the grill as well as beverages. Entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be provided by The Surge.

Lakefest. Lakefest will be held the weekend of October 3-4. Lalah informed the group that there are 33 vendors who have committed for this year’s festival. She is looking for people to assist in the Town Hall booth. We also need materials promoting PLAIN. To close Lakefest, on Sunday, October 4, there will be a flotilla inside the berm with canoes and kayaks. People will decorate these and prizes will be awarded. This event will officially close the lake for the Fall/Winter season.

Activities for Seniors. Linda O. brought up the proposal that PLAIN sponsor some activities each year for seniors. She has discussed this briefly with Nita Towns, mentioning group trips to plays or a musical performance. However, Nita thought that seniors would be more interested in going out to dinner. Mary suggested activities such as a Bingo night. Linda said she was thinking of Pine Lakers who were age 65 and older; James suggested that we focus more on the infirm over age 70 than on the younger group of seniors. Linda will develop a list of older PL residents and ask a few of these their opinion on activities we could sponsor. She would like PLAIN to provide approximately two activities each year especially for our senior residents.

Executive Board Retreat. Linda asked when the leadership would prefer to have a retreat to brainstorm about PLAIN, in general. The consensus was to have this on the weekend in the late afternoon at Gwyneth’s home. She will poll the board as to the best date, and then send out the invitations.

Meeting Attendance. There was some discussion about how to encourage larger attendance at the monthly meetings. Evenings are difficult for some members, particularly parents. James suggested that PLAIN hold a meeting on a Sunday afternoon and include a meal, perhaps in January.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35p.m.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse.
